FAQ
What do I get?
Your fee pays for your camping (which includes hot showers, bathrooms with running water and electricity). It also covers breakfast on Saturday and Sunday and dinner on Saturday. It also covers all your other tourney fees (so we can do things like book fields, have a party tent, cool the beer, etc etc.)
Saturday Night’s Showcase
Saturday night’s showcase is yet to be determined but we’ll let you know what it is once we know what it is.
Throw-Run-Catch & Other Sport Related Talent Showcase
Okay, so technically not a new thing, but worth mentioning anyway, is that last year’s new Throw-Run-Catch competition will be back. What is Throw-Run-Catch? Well… you throw the disc… run after it… and catch it. With the winner being the person who can get the most distance. Last year’s almost 70 yard sprint to a layout grab was caught on camera by photographer Jonathan Hines (who won our 2009 Photography Contest)
We’re excited to have this, in combination with our annual All Star Game, and the Fastest Man and Fastest Woman competition on Saturday night.
Don’t miss out on all the action!
The ‘other’ Saturday Night Talent Showcase
Last couple of years we did a take on the Dance and Singing competitions on TV… This year we’re opening up. The Saturday Night Talent Showcase is the original gong show! Got someone on your team who can sing? Play an instrument? Do magic tricks? Can your whole team do a dance number? Whatever goes… just remember… your time on stage is measured by the appreciation of the audience… once they boo you… the hook comes out and your yanked off stage. So us what you got and you can be the ‘amazing’ performance everyone is talking about (and posting on YouTube for years to come).
Banking and Bids
We WILL bank your money when we get it.
If your team is not accepted, we will mail back your money around the start of the tourney (June 1st).
We get a lot of bids. Incomplete bids will not be accepted.
Refunds
Before April 30th: Full refund (minus paypal fee)
May 1st up to and including tournament (June 3rd to 5th): Full individual player refunds ($120 per player minus paypal fees) only if team has 16 players still on the roster after refunds. Teams that drop out of the tournament after May 1st will only be given a refund for players above and beyond the 16 player minimum (minus paypal fees). As per above, refunds will be paid around the start of the tourney (June 1st).
We apologize for any inconvenience the above refund policy may cause. However, this policy is designed to ensure adequate funding to run the tournament each year and we need to minimize the number of teams dropping out close to the tournament thus causing last minute schedule changes.
Police
- We have a great relationship with the Fergus Police Dept., now a detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police force. Please consider that this on-going relationship is integral to the long-term operation of this event.
- Contrary to the gossip, we pay off-duty police to attend evening festivities. This has been our arrangement with the police and the community from the very beginning.
- Please be respectful of the police and mindful that you will be seeing them at regular intervals throughout the weekend. It is not uncommon for their cruisers to make brief visits to the campsites, the fields and our festivities.
NOTE: You will be individually and personally responsible for all fines and legal repercussions resulting from the failure to use good judgment and follow these rules.
Camping
Please bring everything you need for our site which provides camping, ultimate and partying. If camping’s not your thing, ask the local Chamber of Commerce (tel 519 843 5140, fax 519 787 0983). If you are camping, pray for sun and dry warmth.
Please also take a minute to read the full Camping Rules in the captain’s package. You might learn something useful or important. Really. The same basic no-brainer camping rules apply every year.
The Basic Rules:
- No open fires.
- NO CARS IN CAMPGROUND
- No loud stereos etc. at night (after 10pm. Bring acoustic instruments if you want to make music.
- Family camping area is in the west most part of the trees along the fields. It will be marked off, and is reserved for family only who had requested this ahead of time.
- If you want to sleep well, bring earplugs.
- Please bring your own food and beverages for your own campsite. (Noting, of course, that we will do a good job of feeding you and providing refreshments).
- Respect your fellow campers, you may not share the same attitudes about staying up all night partying.
- If you are not camping, please DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE.
Alcohol
- You must be the age of majority (19 yrs in Ontario) to buy/drink alcohol. If you are under that age (stop wishing, Masters), please do not drink alcohol at Gender Blender.
- You will NEED TO BRING PHOTO ID TO THE SATURDAY NIGHT PARTY to prove your age. Without it we can’t let you into the party. This is a requirement of our liquor license. You can have open alcohol within your campsites & you can have open alcohol in the main tent and fenced-in beer-garden.
- Do not carry open glass containers! Mardi Gras rules! Always use a plastic go-cup and take care to keep glass from being broken around the campsites, main tent and fields around the Community Centre.
- Do not carry open alcohol between above mentioned locations and/or anywhere near the Community Centre (ie the main fields, or the showers/dressing rooms). One unfortunate soul was fined for such an indiscretion in the past.
- Do not carry open alcohol at any of the off-site field locations this applies to Hogarth P.S., Strathallan and Victoria Park.
Dogs
- Dogs must be leashed. Owners must stoop and scoop.
- Kids must also be leashed, unless they are playing ultimate, in which case some appropriate means (to be determined by captains before a game) must be agreed upon for tiring them out so that we can all hope to keep up with them.
- A family camping area is reserved along the forest by the baseball diamond.
Captain’s Packs/Registration
When you show up to disc central on Friday (between 3pm and 8pm), the registration desk will be open. If you miss these hours, please show up bright and early at 8am Saturday morning. Why do you need this? Without registering you won’t get your wristbands, garbage bags, beer tickets, and other items that are included in your captains pack.
We will not give you your captain’s pack until your roster is fully confirmed (all waivers signed, all guests paid, all absent people removed with the form above).
If you have a person who isn’t getting there until later… I suggest that you pay us for them and collect from them when they get there.
Non-Players
My non-player, injured sideliner, non-drinker, guest… they’re free, right? No. Gender Blender is an event… that has an ultimate tourney attached to it. The biggest part of the costs are the party tent, campground, washrooms, and food. Everyone at the event uses those and it is a one-price-fits-all event. If you have guests coming with your team, even non-playing ones, they must be on your roster and have paid and signed a waiver.
No Hat Team
Just what it says: there will be no hat team. Every year captains contact us, usually in the two weeks before the tournament, looking for players, usually women. If you would like to go on a list of players looking for teams, especially if you are a woman, please email us. We will post such requests on a page for the captains to see.
Photography
By attending this event you assume the risk of your photo being taken and/or posted on the internet by other participants. There are too many camera phones, etc. around to control picture taking.
