The Kit Faragher Spirit Award
This trophy is to recognize the recipients for their dedication to the Spirit of the Game, and to celebrate the joy they bring to every player who steps onto a field or into a blender with them.
Kit Faragher was a woman full of life, love and enthusiasm. Playing Ultimate with her team was one of her greatest joys. She traveled from Colorado in 2000 and 2001 with her team Lickety Split to participate in Gender Blender, one of her favorite tournaments. Everyone who encountered Kit – be it on the field, in the dance contest, or swirling around a blender learned that Kit’s smile and laughter were contagious, and as a result the world was a better place.
On September 11, 2001, Kit was killed at the World Trade Center. In January 2002, Kit’s sister Beth, another Gender Blender regular, was chosen to run with the Olympic torch in Boulder, Colorado, and did so in Kit’s honor. Lickety Split rooted her along the way.
Kit’s family and team are deeply honored that Gender Blender named their spirit award after Kit. This torch reads, “Light the Fire Within,” to an Ultimate player, this means ignite the Spirit of the Game within you and use it to play this game and live your life by those principles. Kit embodied the true Spirit of the Game throughout her life by living every moment to the fullest, respecting those she encountered along the way, and spreading her smile and love.
To all of those who receive thie award, CONGRATULATIONS! Both on and off the field, you’ve displayed you have the best spirit at Gender Blender!
